With FEMA Funding Assured, SF Supervisors Approve 400 More Hotel Rooms for Homeless
The SF Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved an expansion of the shelter-in-place hotel program for the homeless, adding 400 more hotel rooms to the 1,800 currently in use.
The vote comes two weeks after the proposal was first floated by several supervisors, and after getting assurance from the Biden administration that FEMA will be fully reimbursing cities for these programs retroactive to January 2020. Since the start of this pandemic, we successfully got hundreds of people off the street and into hotel rooms to safely shelter in place, said Supervisor Hillary Ronen in a statement to KPIX. This has saved countless lives. With the federal government reimbursing the city 100% of the costs, there is no excuse for us to leave our most vulnerable outdoors. We can and must do the right thing and house as many people as possible during this pandemic.
