More than a quarter of age 75+ New Mexicans vaccinated

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal Twenty-eight percent of those 75 and older in New Mexico have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as the continued rollout of vaccinations of those at the top of the priority list reaches nearly 60,000 a week, state health officials said Wednesday. The pace of vaccinations, their impact on coronavirus case counts and questions about the equitable distribution of vaccine among the state’s 33 counties were addressed at a press briefing Wednesday with Department of Health Secretary-designate Dr. Tracie Collins and Dr. David Scrase, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s lead medical adviser on the COVID-19 pandemic response.

NM ready to expand vaccinations—if feds send more supply

January 26, 2021 Major hospital systems in New Mexico say that they are prepared to administer many more COVID-19 shots as they become available. But the nature of the supply chain is not only out of their hands, it’s out of the hands of the state, which relies on distribution from the federal government. Department of Health Secretary-designate Dr. Tracie Collins said that, as of Sunday, the state had received 221,375 COVID-19 vaccine doses from the federal government and administered 203,830, or over 90 percent. “New Mexico [has] the third-highest vaccine administration rate among all states in the country,” Collins said. “So we have a lot to be proud of.”

Guv: Positive signs on COVID-19, including start of vaccinations, but still need to be vigilant

pixabay The state of New Mexico announced the most COVID-19 related deaths in a single day on Thursday, 48, continuing the trend of increasing deaths from the respiratory disease. “We must change this trajectory,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a press conference on Thursday.  She noted that it took 234 days to reach 1,000 COVID-19 deaths, but just 48 days to go from 1,000 to 2,000 deaths.  “You can see the exponential rate at which infections are occurring, hospitalizations are occurring, people who need ventilators, how that is occurring and how many people we are losing to this deadly virus,” the governor said. One big concern was for family gatherings at Christmas.
