A plant’s growth is determined by the number of leaves it produces at any given time; this number can guide farmers on optimal cultivation methods. Conventional leaf counting methods, however, rely on manual counting a labor-intensive process usually associated with large uncertainties because of small sample sizes. Researchers have now utilized deep learning to develop a high-throughput leaf-tip counting method that provides highly accurate measurements using crop images from the field.
