Joseph Dempsey, a veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ Department, was fired by Correction Commissioner Louis Molina just three months into his tenure. Molina on Oct. 31 had touted Dempsey as a “forward thinker.” Sources said a woman employed by the Correction Department filed a sexual harassment complaint against him, spurring Molina to act.
Newly-minted cops from a class of 700 due to graduate from the police academy Oct. 17 will be sent to commercial strips plagued by larceny. They’ll also go into a subway system where seven people have been murdered this year and numerous straphangers have been beaten in random attacks, and to housing projects where gangs battle each other.
