DTI reiterates guidelines on payment options for buyers

DTI OIC-Regional Director Leonila Baluyut said this is part of the Department Administrative Order No. 21-03 or the “Guidelines for Payments Options on the Purchase of Consumer Products and Services,” which the agency issued recently.    “Under this, all sellers, whether registered or unregistered, are mandated to provide consumers the option to pay in cash, in installment, or a combination of the two. It also states that an installment only mode of payment is strictly prohibited,” Baluyut said.    The guidelines, she said, also specify that no additional charge should be collected if the buyer opts to pay through debit/credit/prepaid cards, QR codes, electronic fund transfers, or other digital means available.

DTI-BPS, DA-BAFS harmonize standards development processes

MANILA, Mar. 13 The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) and the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) convened to discuss the current status of standards development via Zoom Video Conferencing on 01 February 2021. The DTI-BPS, as the National Standards Body of the Philippines, is mandated by virtue of RA 7394 to develop, promulgate, and coordinate standardization activities in the Philippines. Meanwhile, DA-BAFS is mandated by RA 8435 to set and implement standards for fresh, primary- and secondary-processed agricultural and fishery products. Noting the seeming overlap of functions, DTI-BPS held a meeting with the DA-BAFS Assistant Director, Ms. Mary Grace Mandigma, and the DA-BAFS Standards Development Division Chief, Ms. Karen Kristine Roscom, to discuss the grey areas in the standardization of products and services where consumer products meet agriculture and fishery products. Press Release - Another time: Gordon on car seat law implementation

Press Release ANOTHER TIME: GORDON ON CAR SEAT LAW IMPLEMENTATION While seeing the importance of child restraints to ensure the protection of children while travelling on board vehicles, Senator Richard J. Gordon on Monday pointed out that it may not be timely to push through with the implementation of the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act, which was supposed to take effect last Feb. 2. I maintain that this is an important law because it primarily ensures the protection of young people inside vehicles. Accidents do happen. Nakakalungkot na makita yung bata, mahahagis at minsan tatama sa windshield pag may aksidente. But it is a question of timing. We need it for another time, Gordon said in a manifestation on a privilege speech given by Senate President Vicente Sotto III on the said law.

DTI, TC differ over cement safeguard duty

Published December 21, 2020, 7:00 AM There appears to be confusion in the imposition of the second year safeguard duty on imported cement with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Tariff Commission (TC), and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) apparently not coordinating with each other. This transpired at the recent public hearing last Friday by the TC on the Monitoring of the Philippine Cement Industry.                 The DTI already issued Department Administrative Order No. 20-08 series of 2020 setting the duty rate for the second year of the three-year safeguard measure against imported cement at P9.80 duty for every 40-kg bag of imported cement or P245 per metric ton.
