they do have some form of training, but i will say this. in large urban states, look, police training is actually pretty good. it s not the training that s the problem. i mean, everyone knows you don t do choke holds, you know, you don t put your knee in people s backs like you have in certain cases, and you give warnings. they don t follow it. the question on all of this is how do you hold officers accountable when they don t follow the training, when they do engage in acts like we have in this particular case here. do you hold them accountable and that s a function of the police chief and his command stand and in many ways, the union, because the police unions are big stumping blocks in many ways in terms of trying to get consistency of policing. in our case, which is similar to this case. you got to get a federal monitor in there. someone that s going to put forth changes and you have to have enforcement of those changes, and you have to hold the department accountable if
house have helped us get here. rich: on the surface it appears that action with a democratic white house is somewhat unlikely, but, you know, what the heck, it s a new year. do you see any type of compromise coming to beef up border security? there is a conversation at least on the senate side with senators sinema and till the lis who are tillis who are working on a border security element and an element for a path to citizenship for about 2 million dreamers in the country. do you think that s something that could be workable as a compromise this year? i think anything s workable at this point. in two days republicans will take control of the house, and no matter how bad things are today, they can get worse, and i believe we will be headed at least in the right direction. we ll finally be able to hold this administration if accountable. remember, we ve not actual had a proper hearing holding secretary mayorkas and his department accountable. i believe he s the greatest advocate for
rhetoric against the fbi by the gop on friday while campaigning out with chuck grassley in iowa. i want to play for you a little bit of what he said and get your reaction on the other side. we should be standing with the men and women of law enforcement, and we should recognize them. we can hold the attorney general and the justice department accountable, we can demand that they reveal why the search warrant was executed against the resident of a former president for the united states, but without the meaning the rank and file men and women of the fbi simply put, peter willis, why do you think listening to? no. i don t think so. there s nobody out there today that doesn t have the understanding that if donald trump gave that exact statement, that mike pence just, gave that all of this would stop. the temperature would decrease. all of this kind of violence that is emanating from all this hyper heated rhetoric would slow down. we need the former president to
saw one branch of government, the legislative branch pull back on the president, and not successfully, because obviously, he was acquitted, but you still have, the judicial branch here. you have the judicial branch and mechanisms to hold the justice department accountable to conduct oversight, and the court is going to have a lot of questions about this, because prosecutors do not resign everyday in circumstances like this, and the judge is entitled to ask some probing questions of what happened here. and the inspector general would take a look at this and congress, and the attorney general really has an obligation to go up in front of the judiciary committees of the senate and the house to explain what happened here. i agree completely if i can interject with carrie, while i am proud of the prosecutors and this is a bad day for the justice department. and everybody knows that the president is going to pardon roger stone. so just do it. do it now and don t wait for the day after the
department will do what it will. it s probably the american people that we need to be more concerned with. you know, press credibility is low. now a recent study that we did suggests that it s starting to turn around and that more people are starting to trust the press. but what we know is that trump supporters, his die hard supporter rs the osupport e ers are the ones who have the least trust in the press. if the american people hold the justice department accountable, we need a critical mass f them to be able to find information that they trust and believe. otherwise, democracy didn t work. and so rielle really, the president is not i don t think even necessarily trying to influence the justice department as much he is ryie in trying to influence the american people. but this is a real problem because what kelly says is true.
