The title of executive chef for Weidner Field â home of Switchbacks FC â could seem unusual at first blush. But sports fans who think stadium food is all hamburgers and nachos are forgetting that corporate boxes and special events call for a more sophisticated hand.
And when attendees at Weidner Fieldâs May 21 grand opening event feast on octopus arepas, pork belly tacos and donuts flambé, theyâll get a taste of new Executive Chef Amy Parrottâs skills â honed at venues like Denverâs Pepsi Center and Leviâs Stadium in Santa Clara (home of the 49ers).
A native of California, Parrottâs move into the culinary world was a fortuitous accident. When she moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be with family, Parrott, whoâs 6-foot-3, took a job as security guard at Novakâs Bar & Grill. It wasnât long before she started asking about helping the kitchen staff â and the bar manager suggested Parrott take culinary classes.Â
Basalt wrestler Ruben Samuelson poses with his family in recognition of his 100th career varsity win earlier this season. The Roaring Fork student will represent the Longhorns at the Class 3A state wrestling tournament on Friday in Pueblo. Photo courtesy of Ryan Bradley.
Ruben Samuelson came up just short at regionals two years ago and responded. A season ago at state he again came up just short, but yet again has responded and finds himself in his senior year with a chance to make a run at the top of the Colorado wrestling hierarchy.
Samuelson will be the lone representative of the Basalt High School wrestling team at the Class 3A state tournament on Friday in Pueblo.
