Denver voters are electing a new mayor for the first time in more than a decade but early turnout has been low with 17 candidates on the ballot for spring election.
State Rep. Alex Valdez told Colorado Politics he is submitting his candidacy paperwork on Tuesday, joining a crowded field of candidates hoping to succeed term-limited Mayor Michael Hancock next year.
A Denver7 ballot analysis found that of the 103 state and federal seats up for election, there are only 12 that feature more than one democratic candidate. Republicans have twice as many contested races, at 26.
