Journal-Courier receives 7 awards, general excellence honor in state contest

The Journal-Courier received seven awards in this year’s Illinois Press Association Best of the Press Awards, and was the recipient of an honorable mention in the General Excellence category.
Awards were announced Friday during the press association’s annual meeting. Entries were judged by members of the North Carolina Press Association.
The Journal-Courier staff received first place in the special sections category for its 20 Under 40 project. It received second place in that category for its 2020 baseball preview.
Individual awards went to Laurie Bosworth (third place) in the original column category for her article “Defining the world”; to Sports Editor Dennis Mathes (third place) in the sports photo category for his picture “All-out effort”; and Editor and Publisher David C.L. One person died and another was injured in a massive house fire early Wednesday.
Jacksonville firefighters were called to the blaze at a residence in the 300 block of Sandusky Street shortly after midnight. When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed, according to a Jacksonville Police Department report.
