Stevens: It was in the back of my mind that I might not throw again | FEATURE

One of the few athletes to win world titles at all three levels of competition – youth, U20 and senior – a fixture in the top half-dozen female discus throwers in the world, Stevens was a model of consistency. When injury did strike, however, it seemed fate unleashed its pent-up fury at being denied so long. From the World Athletics Continental Cup in September 2018 until 13 March 2021, Stevens was able to compete just twice. A serious back injury and long rehabilitation wrecked almost all of 2019, before an even more devastating neck injury early in 2020 threatened to end her career.
