Republicans are making the case they got some big things about the COVID-19 pandemic right as the country moves toward normalcy under Democratic rule.
GOP leaders note red states that ended their lockdowns earlier or were less restrictive for most of the past year are outperforming many of their Democratic counterparts economically. They claim prescience, or at least early open-mindedness, on the possible China-based Wuhan lab origins of the virus.
And, notably, they are quietly touting former President Donald Trump’s role in vaccine development through his Operation Warp Speed.
All of this comes as President Joe Biden was elected with a mandate to get the pandemic under control, and even blue states are beginning to reopen as half of U.S. adults are fully vaccinated. LANSING, Mich. – Politico recently reported that Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has considered running for governor, challenging Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“People want to test the waters. They want to see what the reaction would be,” said political strategist Dennis Darnoi. “Does it excite donors and the grassroots? Is there pushback?”

It’s still early in the process but some names are already being floated among the Republican Party.
“Republicans do realize that she (Whitmer) is vulnerable but they need the right candidate to beat her and some township supervisor from a county that no one’s heard of is not going to be the person who gets it done,” Darnoi said.

DETROIT – Michigan’s COVID-19 numbers getting national attention.
According to New York Times, seven of the ten top metro areas in the nation with the worst COVID surges are in Michigan.
However, so far there have not been any new recent restrictions, which is in stark contrast to what Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration did in November of last year when it announced the pause to save lives.

The jury had deliberated for 14 full days in the corruption trial and announced their verdict that Monday morning. The verdict had been reached the Friday before, but the jury decided to go home and sleep on it over the weekend to see if anyone would change his or her mind by Monday morning.

A century ago, President Warren G. Harding was sworn in on the promise that he could bring unto the nation “a return to normalcy.” To Americans recovering from a devastating foreign war and a flu pandemic, that sounded awfully appealing.
As we roll into
our ’20s, we certainly can relate. And all signs do point to a somewhat kinder, gentler 2021. Our new president, love or hate him, is unlikely to generate daily drama and controversy. There aren’t a ton of important elections to divide and consume us. And, God and/or Big Pharma willing, a workable COVID-19 vaccine will allow us to un-pause our lives.
