Firefighters salute deputy chief lost to COVID

HAVERFORD —Firefighters buried one of their own Friday. Oakmont Fire Co. Deputy Chief Nick Sava, 65, expired on Dec. 14 from complications of COVID-19. Sava, who had been in excellent health, had been hospitalized at Bryn Mawr Hospital for 10 days before his death. “Nick has long been an active and dedicated volunteer at Oakmont, serving in multiple leadership positions, up to the rank of deputy chief. In addition to currently holding the position of assistant chief, Nick also is a board of director, and life member,” read the message on the Fire Co. Facebook page announcing his death.. - Advertisement - Sava’s funeral took place Friday afternoon at St. Denis Catholic Church. While pandemic restrictions limited those in attendance, more than 1,700 people viewed the services on the church’s Facebook page.
