Coalition on Homelessness now underway in Clinton County Albanese WILMINGTON A Coalition on Homelessness is now organized and had its first meeting, with hopes that light will be shed this year on where to customize efforts for those who are unsheltered here. Clinton County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) Executive Director Taylor Stuckert, Clinton County Homeless Shelter Executive Director Denise Stryker, and homelessness consultant Tom Albanese gave an overview Wednesday to county commissioners about the local initiative to lessen homelessness. The Coalition’s steering committee is comprised of people from the city and county governments, the Wilmington Area Ministerial Association, law enforcement, mental health and substance abuse services, an individual who has been homeless, and there are a couple general seats still available. They will assemble monthly.

In 1988, the Clinton County Services for the Homeless “the Shelter” opened its doors and became the first emergency shelter in a rural Ohio community. For more than 32 years, the support of our Clinton County Community has enabled the Shelter to continue its mission of providing emergency shelter, compassionate care, and support to the homeless and underprivileged while remembering each resident is a person of worth.

City eyes tweaking applications for Hotel Lodging Tax for good of local organizations By John Hamilton - jhamilton@wnewsj.com WILMINGTON A change in some form could be coming regarding local organizations applying for the city’s Hotel Lodging Tax funds. At Thursday’s Wilmington City Council meeting, council held the first reading of an ordinance amending the application for the funds. Judiciary Committee Chair Matt Purkey told council it would update the application process. Purkey advised that he and Councilmember Michael Snarr discussed the idea of helping disseminate those funds to local nonprofit groups in need of the money due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.
