The Cape Fear area is home to more than 80 unsolved murder cases.
While detectives in the tri-county area work tirelessly to solve cold cases, lack of evidence and information are largely the reasons homicides have gone unsolved for years.

At a press conference on Nov. 12, Pender County Sheriff Alan Cutler confirmed the two died in a fatal shooting incident. Greene was found inside the home and Coley was found outside.
The sheriff s office has investigated five homicides this year, including the three homicides in this case, according to Sanders. The other two homicides are considered solved with arrests being made.
These three homicides are the only ones that remain open, Sanders wrote.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also actively assisting in the investigation, according to Sanders. The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or people involved.
