The motion, presented after resident Rejean Venne asked that the district be “transferred” to the province’s pandemic response framework from the current lockdown, received only one supporting vote at a council meeting Tuesday night.
In a letter, Venne said council “owes it to its residents to have a difficult conversation and take a stance” on the issue. And while he did not call for council to criticize the health unit or its decisions, Venne said he believes the region should be treated “more fairly when it comes to the COVID-19 response.”

Councillors Chris Fisher, Leo Mallete, Dan Roveda and Rolly Larabie voted as a bloc against Savage, highlighting the six-month stalemate over the Ward 7 seat.
“In effect, we’re saying the boards are more important, Verner is not getting a councillor,” Fisher said after the motion was tabled. “I’d rather see the board seat be left open until the vacancy is filled in Verner.”
