TEMPLE, TX â As temperatures continue to drop, the need for warming centers is essential. Impact Temple Church hosts one of the two warming centers in Temple.
This is just the second year Impact Temple Church has held a warming center, but this year, the center and
its guests will face the toughest temperatures since 1983. You can come here and thaw out during those winter days. You get a break from all that bad weather and you get a warm meal. said Victor Gadison, a guest of the warming center.
As the temperature continues to drop, several warming stations are being opened around the CenTex.
Wednesday night, warming stations opened in Temple and Killeen. Before the pandemic, facilities would open overnight and close by 8 a.m., and during the day, the homeless would stay at the Temple Library. With the library being closed due to COVID-19, Impact Church will remain open 24/7.
According to KWTX, the Temple Homeless Taskforce asks for volunteers and donations to make it through the next couple of days.
With Impact Church and the Salvation Army offering the homeless a place to sleep, shower, and do laundry, items like sleeping bags, pillows, coats, blankets, gloves, hats, and assistance with meals are needed.
Temperatures in the Temple area are expected to drop below freezing later this week, becoming dangerously cold for the city’s most vulnerable population — the homeless.
