CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) Two West Virginia police officers who shot and wounded a Black man wielding a knife will not face any charges, a prosecutor has said.
A review of body camera video and reports determined the Charleston Police officers did not commit any crimes in the shooting of Denaul Dickerson on April 30, Kanawha County First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Don Morris told news outlets on Monday. Authorities have said Dickerson, 33, was shot and treated at a hospital after lunging at officers with a knife. He has been charged with attempted malicious assault of a police officer.

Activists continue to push the City of Charleston to implement policing alternatives after an incident where police officers shot a man last month.
At the Charleston City Council meeting on Monday, local activist Hunter Starks asked that police not be dispatched on every 911 call. Starks said there are other ways to approach vulnerable citizens in the throes of a mental breakdown.
“When someone is in crisis, an authority figure with a gun will always feel like a threat for so many reasons,” Starks said.
CHARLESTON â The mayor in West Virginiaâs capital city has asked the police chief to draft a plan of action for the use of stun guns following a police shooting that wounded a man.
Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin gave Police Chief Tyke Hunt until June 1 to develop a plan that includes mandatory training and certification, an inventory of the stun guns and training in nonlethal force and de-escalation tactics, news outlets reported.
The call comes after Charleston police shot and wounded Denaul Dickerson, 33, last week. Dickerson had a knife and made a âlunging movementâ before officers shot him, police said.
