distinctly two different things, jonathan. in terms of her stature in congress it hasn t changed. people will say she ll still caucus, she reminded me she never caucused to begin with. she can t stand going to those meetings, but she s going to vote with them 90% of the time, which is what she tended to do in the past. electorally i think it could make a significant difference because now she can run as an independent, which means she ll avoid a democratic party and by declaring herself an independent, but she ll be running in a general election presumably against a republican and a democrat could split the vote and allow a republican to become a senator. that in turn could swing a majority to over two of the republicans. so there s a it s going to be a very, very important race, but i also think it ll be important, too, because if she prevails as in she provides in essence a kind of road map for democrats who have not done well or who
