On last week’s editorial page of the Rio Rancho Observer, one of the newspaper’s reporters explained what the Democratic Party of Sandoval County needs to do to win elections, and in a separate opinion column, the Republican chair of the Sandoval County Commission explained the superiority of the recent county redistricting that he and his fellow Republican commissioners passed.

Column: Sandoval County Democrats should eye 2024

Rather than pouting and self-pitying over the 3-2 county commission vote in favor of Plan D for county redistricting, and further feeding into the circus-like atmosphere this matter quickly turned into, the Democratic Party of Sandoval County would be wise to get a head start preparing for 2024, as three county commission seats will be up for grabs.

County gets redistricting plan D

After several tense, grueling hours discussing multiple redistricting plans that included two new alternative plans, the Sandoval County Commission voted 3-2 on Thursday to OK Plan D as the next commission district map. Under Plan D, put forth by former Republican legislator Rod Adair through his business New Mexico Demographic Research on Nov. 18, District 3 covers the northern part of Rio Rancho, rather than running along the eastern border as before. Additionally, Algodones moves from District 1 to District 5.
