The feud between the executive and judicial branches of our federal government began with the first transition of power in the presidency, as the Democratic Jeffersonians took over from the federalists. The Jeffersonians loathed the conservative interpretation of the U.S. Constitution expounded through the John Marshall court. But the first actual assault upon SCOTUS took place under Democrat Andrew Jackson, the seventh president.
