Washington’s Democratic Governor Jay Inslee announced on Friday that he will soon issue a legally-binding emergency order requiring Kindergarten through 6th grade students to begin “hybrid instruction,” a mix of remote and in-person teaching. School districts will be required to begin implementing this order by April 5, and by April 19 all students must be provided the option for in-person instruction.
Resistance builds to school reopenings in Seattle-Tacoma metro region
Major districts in the Seattle metro region are beginning to phase in students for in-person instruction throughout the next month. These plans are being implemented as part of the Biden administration’s drive to reopen all US schools by the end of April, which is supported at every level of government in order to maximize the production of profits in the broader economy.
On February 16, Washington’s Democratic Governor Jay Inslee encouraged school districts to reopen on the basis of the new politically-motivated CDC guidelines which falsely state that schools can operate safely without teacher vaccinations and at “any level of community transmission.”
Police arrest twelve activists demanding housing for the homeless in Olympia, Washington
On Sunday, Olympia police forcibly evicted 45 homeless activists from the Red Lion Hotel, and 12 people were arrested on burglary and trespassing charges. According to the police, the homeless activists had “forcibly occupied” and attempted to “take over the hotel” and an employee was said to have been assaulted when they tried to close the door.
The activist group Oly Housing Now (OHN) had booked 17 rooms for the homeless and said they would stay there until Thurston County arranged for permanent housing. The activist group demanded that Thurston County Health Department apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding to shelter the county’s homeless.
Biden and Democrats rush to reopen schools in new year as COVID-19 death toll climbs
Dozens of large urban school districts in the United States from San Diego, Tacoma and Denver to Chicago, Atlanta and Washington DC plan to restart in-person schooling in the opening weeks of the new year, even as health experts predict January will see a “surge on top of a surge” of the coronavirus pandemic, which has already claimed more than 340,000 US lives.
December has been the deadliest month since the pandemic began, with nearly 70,000 deaths over the past 30 days and a record 3,725 deaths on December 29, according to Johns Hopkins University. “The next couple of months are going to be awful,” Dr. Jonathan Reiner, professor of medicine at George Washington University, told CNN. “We re going to lose 3,000, maybe more people a day, probably until we’re well into February.”
Washington educators denounce Democratic Governor Jay Inslee’s plan to reopen schools
As the coronavirus spreads like wildfire throughout the United States and along the West Coast, Washington state’s Democratic Governor Jay Inslee announced last Wednesday, “It’s time to begin getting kids back into classrooms.”
The announcement follows the reopening of schools in New York City, which has spearheaded the broader trend of cities and states controlled by the Democratic Party reopening schools as quickly as possible. In addition to Washington state, last week saw Chicago and Washington, DC, announce plans to reopen schools in January. Similar plans were implemented across the state of Oregon last month, while officials in Oakland, California, are also moving to reopen schools in January.
