America, human rights, and Israel’s war on Palestine

NEW YORK Israel’s attempt to justify its latest brutal assault on Gaza rings hollow to anybody familiar with events in Israel, where the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, backed by anti-Arab racists, has systematically, cruelly, and persistently violated the basic human rights of the Arab population. Human Rights Watch (HRW), a global NGO with many Jewish leaders, has recently condemned Israel for crimes against humanity.
Israel’s behaviour puts US President Joe Biden’s administration, which professes a foreign policy based on human rights, under the spotlight. If that commitment is genuine, the administration should support an independent UN investigation of Israeli human rights violations against the Arab population and suspend military aid to Israel until the inquiry is completed and the human rights of the Palestinians are secured.

WASHINGTON: India has appreciated the Biden administration s decision to support a proposal moved by it and South Africa to temporarily waive some Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) rules amid the coronavirus pandemic.
For the past several weeks, India s ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, along with the diplomats from South Africa, had been meeting US lawmakers and officials regarding the proposal. We appreciate the US administration s announcement today of its support for waiver of IPR for Covid-19 vaccines,” Sandhu told PTI on Wednesday.
Making the announcement, US trade representative Katherine Tai said this is a global health crisis, and the extraordinary circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic call for extraordinary measures.
