Plans for new McDonald s drive-thru on M27

PLANS for a McDonald s drive-through on the M27 have been slammed by a community leader, claiming it flies in the face of the Government s anti-obesity message amid the coronavirus crisis. An application was submitted to Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) to build the two-storey drive-through at the Rownhams East Motorway Service Area, which would generate 20 jobs. The proposals, tabled by Roadchef Motorways Limited, could offer an extra 113 parking spaces to customers and would replace the existing McDonald s in the service area s main building. Liberal Democrat Celia Dowden criticised the plans, believing the fast-food restaurant contradicts the Government s national campaign launched in July urging Britons to lose weight.
