BSE was the top gainer in the Nifty500 index, soaring 521 percent, followed by IRFC and Suzlon Energy, which skyrocketed 462 percent and 444 percent, respectively.
Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd, Gujarat Gas Ltd, VIP Industries Ltd and TTK Prestige Ltd were among BSE500 stocks seeing MF and FPI selling. Three of the eight stocks delivered double-digit returns in year that saw BSE500 index surging 40 per cent.
Benchmark Sensex climbed 526 points while Nifty closed above the 22,100 level on Wednesday following buying in banking, auto and oil shares after positive macro data. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 0.73% to settle at 72,996 with 18 of its stocks advancing and 12 closing lower.
Sensex opened the day at 72,396.97 against the previous close of 72,831.94 and traded in the negative territory throughout the session. The Nifty 50 opened at 21,947.90 against the previous close of 22,096.75
Stock market today: Sensex closed at 72,470.30, down 362 points, or 0.50 per cent while the Nifty 50 closed with a loss of 92 points, or 0.42 per cent, at 22,004.70.
