India is set to launch its first urban high-speed train network, with the 17km priority section of the Delhi-Meerut corridor opening on Friday. Journalists were given a preview of the RapidX train, which can reach speeds of up to 160kmph. The trains feature cushioned seats, charging points, and digital displays, with a premium carriage offering additional amenities such as reclining seats and a vending machine. The system also includes advanced security measures, including artificial intelligence-equipped scanners and rapid response teams.
