Milton Downing, an art teacher at Alfred G. Waters Middle School, was named 2021 Art Educator of the Year by the Delaware Art Education Association.
The 35-year art teacher said his teaching philosophy is that it is important to have a rapport with his students. All through school, I had teachers who supported me and treated me with respect and care, and those are attributes I want to pass on to my students, Downing said. I believe if your students know you respect their position and their voice, then they will work more diligently for you.
