if. rachel: democrats are scrambling ahead of the midterms, so much so that even congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez is calling out her party for not following through with latino voters. we ve never tried as a party. the democratic party has not tried in terms of latino electorates. that lack of clarity makes it hard to win people over. rachel: all right. so she s saying that the democrats are not well, let me first introduce our guest. former mayor of dell rio bruno lozano and congressional candidate cassie garcia. bruno, you are a former mayor in this lawyer. she s saying they just didn t reach out, but you did, they ignored you. you called them after the del rio e crisis when the haitian migrants were under the bridge. you were screaming for help.
get it done and we ll do what we need to do in the next couple weeks. it is interesting. i think mitch mcconnell words can be used by democrats to say, look, when they need government to work, it s an odd piece of leverage that i don t know quite what he thinks he s getting there. senator padilla, democrat from california, thank you for coming on and sharing your perspective. let s turn now to a developing story in haiti where just moments ago the latest plane carrying haitian migrants that were deported from del rio e, texas, were deported. these deportation flights would continue to haiti. some of these refugees you ll remember some of the 15,000 migrants congregaing and most folks have not stepped on haitian soil in nearly a decade. our own jacob joins me now from the airport. what and is greeting these folks who have not been in this
country for nearly a decade? confusion and frustration, chuck. actually behind me right now that bus pulling up right here at this gate at the airport is filled with migrants who got off the latest deportation plane to arrive here in port-au-prince. and the biden administration says there has been at least 4,600 haitians who have been expelled from del rio, texas, to here in port-au-prince and another airport in haiti since just ten days ago. 4,600. they expect 5,000 potentially by the end of the day here to be expelled. when i say confusion they re greeted with confusion because many haitians haven t lived in haiti for five, six, some even ten years. they left here to go work in brazil, work in chile for the world cup for the olympics. and they spent all that time there and then went on the move through central america and made their way to the united states and ultimately they were picked up and expelled under this title 42 order by the biden
what happened there. but i m curious, jacob, you know when you heard secretary mayorkus on the show on sunday he wouldn t say directly that it was easier to clear that camp in del rio, texas, once the people found out some might be deported back to haiti. that s exactly what happened. it seems that is why they want to keep this policy in place. they think it turns into a magnet if they don t. yeah, they say this is not an immigration enforcement policy. they say it s a cdc public health authority but effectively advocates are saying this is deterrence. there is no other way to describe it and the thought of sending in ten day s time 5,000 people back to a country that is the force in the western hemisphere that has virtually no job opportunities and some of the greatest food insecurity in the world is inhumane and it s deterrence. it s deterrence very explicitly.
