Biggest home sale in La Jolla history: $24 7 million

Print The biggest home sale in La Jolla’s history and the third-highest ever in San Diego County took place a few weeks ago when a beachfront mansion sold for $24.7 million. Completed last year, the newly built 6,071-square-feet property at 8466 El Paseo Grande sold for one of the highest amounts in San Diego County in the last 12 months a time period marked by a surging luxury market during the pandemic. While the sale was completed in late December, it was not announced by parties involved until this week. The biggest purchase in San Diego County history remains the 2007 sale of an oceanfront home in Del Mar for $48.2 million. The same house was later sold to Bill and Melinda Gates for $43 million last year.

Del Mar board votes to suspend fairgrounds gun show up to a year

Print The family-owned company that has operated the gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for nearly 30 years failed to overcome growing public concern about gun violence nationwide and questions about its owners’ legal troubles. The board that oversees activities at the state-owned venue voted 8-1 Tuesday to suspend the shows after Dec. 31 until a policy is developed that could include a complete ban on the possession of any firearms or ammunition. It may be the first agency in the state to take such action, a remarkable turnaround for a hugely popular event that for decades drew little scrutiny from the board. The directors routinely approved its contracts allowing the exhibition and sale of the latest in high-tech weaponry, accessories, clothing and gear.
