Before Kenny Blakeney and Mike Brey became Division I basketball coaches, they graduated from the same high school, DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. Brey used to run the JV squad at this hoops powerhouse, and he also taught American history for six classes a day. When Blakeney got in touch last offseason to pitch an idea, he knew Brey would understand its purpose, potential, and merit beyond the court.
The idea was this: On Jan. 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Brey s Notre Dame Fighting Irish would visit Howard University in D.C. to squeeze a nationally televised, non-conference road game into the thick of their ACC schedule. Blakeney is Howard s head coach and a D.C. native. If pandemic protocols allowed, he envisioned his opponents touring the King memorial, the site of King s I Have a Dream speech, and the

I know a little late to the game, but I found an article about Deion Sanders and his very first recruiting class at Jackson State.
I ve also read quite a bit about the excuses being made for Mel Tucker and MSU with the intricacies of a Pandemic and his late arrival to the team being the most often used explanations for the relatively poor recruiting this past cycle.
Meanwhile, all Deion has done with much the SAME explanations is bring in the #84 class (ranked alongside FBS teams despite being FCS).
He landed THREE 4-Stars, while MSU signed ONE. And the transfers he is bringing in aren t even included.
National Signing Day: Overachievers and underachievers in the 2021 class
Wednesday, Feb. 3 is National Signing Day. While some high-profile prospects will let the world know where they are headed, most class of 2021 recruits finalized things with the school of their choice during the Early Signing Period back in December.
Alabama is expected to finish the 2021 recruiting with the best class ever as Nick Saban’s group could score north of 325 points on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Right behind them in the rankings is Ohio State, who just played the Crimson Tide for a national title. Coming in at No. 3 is Georgia, who signed the No. 1 class in 2020. Sitting at No. 4 is LSU with Clemson one spot behind them at No. 5 in the rankings.
Deion Sanders has delivered the school its best recruiting class. The star-studded class is led by none other than his youngest son, Shedeur.
Shedeur Sanders is 60th ranked player in the country and the highest-rated quarterback to ever sign with a Football Subdivision Championship school. In addition to signing his son, Sanders also encouraged the nation s number one cornerback,
De’Jahn Warren, to sign with the school. The first-year coach also brought in transfer student-athletes from powerhouses like the University of Southern California and his alma mater, Florida State University. Not to mention, his second-oldest son,
Shilo, is transferring from the University of South Carolina to play for his father.
