primary state. what about that argument and when do you expect that to play out? well, jack smith is asking for a speedy trial in both cases, that s usually something the defense wants, a constitutional right that belongs to the defendant. almost all criminal cases, defendants waive speedy trial requirement because they need time to prepare. it s going to be very challenging to get this done by the election. you have a may date in florida. they just filed a superseding indictment in that case, and the trump team can go back and say look, you can t file essentially a superseding, new indictment with a new party, new counts, and then stick with the original date. so even that date might not be met before the election. there is one interesting thing here, however. as defense counsel, i would be tempted to give smith part of what he s asking for. he wants to move quickly
at one and he could just grant the, what the government allows for, which is december charlie. and then the other and they are saying what the defense wants, they are not gonna pick any trial date. i do think that what there will be something more in the middle, where she is going to pick a firm trial date. in the sense that that is what is required by that you have at least a control date. but you could do, and i think the sensible thing would be for her to, say you know what? when you defense council get access to all of these documents, if there is something in there that causes you to think you need more time, we will come back to me and you will say specific arguments about why you need more time and then i will consider an adjournment. but i want to keep something on the i want to make sure that it warrants clear for their, time their calendars, so i don t have a nonsense with people saying that they cannot do the trial on certain days. i think that that would be the
