美軍撤出阿富汗，極端組織神學士（Taliban，另譯塔利班）攻陷首都重新掌權，美國總統拜登稱撤軍的決定是延續前總統川普政府的政策，不過前代理國防部長米勒（Christopher Miller）表示，其實川普從沒打算完全讓美軍撤出阿富汗，和神學士的協議是另有目的。綜合外媒報導，前代理國防部長米勒向《Defence One》表示，川普和神學士達成協議，要在今年5月1日前撤出駐阿富汗美軍，實質上是在演戲、一場談判策略，真實目的是要迫使阿富汗總統賈尼（Ashraf Ghani）下台，或是勉為其難地分權給神學士，藉此讓部分美軍仍能待在阿富汗執行反恐任務。
