years ago. she was out of time to bring any kind of sexual battery case. when trump reacted the way he reacted to what she wrote, she brought a defamation case, which naturally made it that she would have to prove the rape or sexual battery in the trial. then in response to the me too era, the new york legislature last year opened a one-year window where time barred sexual abuse claims could be filed again. it went from november 24th or so of last year to november 24th of this year. so as soon as that happened, carroll filed the sexual battery charges. so the reason that she got in to court and was able to prove that is a combination of the defamation charge and the fact that they opened this window for a year as a reprieve to the statute of limitations.
