it s going to help us accelerate our nationwide effort to reopen schools safely. last week i directed all states, tribes, and territories to make all adults are eligible to be vaccinated no later than may 1. while this is the time of optimism, it s not a time for relaxation. i need all americans to keep doing your part, wash your hands, stays socially distanced, keep masking up as recommended by the cdc. get vaccinated when it s your turn. none of this is political, it s all science-based. now is not the time to let her guard down. at that-based as well. and last week, we ve seen increases in the number of cases in several states, things make it worse as new variants of the virus spread. that that s why we need to vaccinate as many people as quickly as we possibly can. the best thing we could do to fight back against these variance. we have to beat this virus. we have to mentally well. we will do it by setting aside politics and embracing science. another subject could ring u
the goldilocks question. is it too big, too small or just the right size? i ll talk to two of the world s most foremost economists, larry summers and paul krugman. then what is the quad? president biden met with the leaders of japan, india and australia, a new bloc focused on deterring china. will it work? i ll talk to an expert. and the biotech revolution brought us covid-19 vaccines more swift than anyone thought possible. it s given us the ability to edit genes to cure diseases and the innovations on the horizon are even more extraordinary. i will ask walter isackson to describe what s next. but first, here s my take. within hours of being inaugurated, president biden began to roll back donald trump s most egregious migration policies, which biden called a stain on our natural conscience. he outlined an ambitious proposal for comprehensive reform, including a battle for citizenship living and working in america. literally hundreds of other rules, regulations and fees
admin administered yesterday alone. nearly 70 million americans have gotten at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine, which means one out of five americans has received a shot. this as those $1400 stimulus checks are starting to hit bank accounts. despite the progress being made, thoupds of people are traveling and attending spring break events across the country. many not wearing masks. no protection. masks and social distancing don t seem to be priorities. health officials are warning of the potential consequences. saying the next few weeks will be critical in determining if we ll see another surge. even though the numbers have gone down, over the last couple of weeks, they ve plateaued and when you see a plateau at a level as high as 60,000 cases a day, that is a very vulnerable time to have a surge to go back up. we can avoid that, if we continue to vaccinate people, get more and more protection without all of a sudden pulling back on public health measures. all right.
not really about the virus. it s such a major piece of legislation. it s the most significant change for middle class people, for poor people, people trying to get into the middle class in decades in a very long time. it has amazing things in it. if everybody is vaccinated by june, then it s clearly not related to covid. there is $350 billion for state and local government. california is getting $41 billion. that $41 billion is not related to covid, it s related to kind of helping a blue state. meanwhile, a humanitarian crisis is growing at the u.s./mexico border. fema ordered to help shelter and transfer a record number of child migrants. the biden administration addressing this situation last hour right here on my show. when you look at the past four years, just the rule inhumane way that the last administration moved forward with immigration, it did not enhance our security at all. and so now we re in a situation where, you know, this president and the administrati
pandemic. it s the most significant change for middle class people, for poor people, people trying to get into the middle class, in decades, in a very long time. and it has amazing things in it. this is a critical moment. this is a moment where we have to make sure that the american people know what s in this plan. they understand what s in this plan. and by the way, this bill is 90 some percent coronavirus centric. this is similar to the bill that we wrote in may, the heroes act, some of which was implemented in december, much of it now. so in a moment i m going to talk to democratic congresswoman jackie speier about covid and what is next for her party. while democrats are focusing on covid relief, the republican party has hoped to find the issue they hope will blunt that, immigration. kevin mccarthy about to lead a fact finding mission to the border as republicans step up the rhetoric on the issue. is the biden open border policies that are inviting even more ill
