meteorologist scott williams joins us now live in the studio. good morning to you, scott. another storm? absolutely, veronica. this is the eighth named storm of the 2010 season and its name is hermine. it could bring some problems along the texas coast. right now, as we take a look at the slaert perspective you can see the deep convection right now in the southern gulf of mexico. that will bring heavy rainfall, flash flooding as we move into the lone star state. not only for your labor day but as we move through the middle part of the week as well. you can see the rain bands continuing to come in around corpus christi and eventually into houston. not everything you see making it to the ground. as we expand the view across the nation here on this labor day, a few light sprinkles around the great lakes and also into the northern plains. as we move into florida looking for some scattered showers and some thunderstorms for today. so over the next 48 hours, look at the heavy rainfall. tha
all right. neil irwin, thanks. good to see you. thank you. watching a new storm in the gulf. tropical storm hermine formed overnight. the weather channel meteorologist scott williams here in the studio and joins us live. what does this one tell us? veronica, right now looking at hermine, the eighth named storm of the 2010 season and the bottom line with this, not a wind producer but it will be a rain maker. trouble here going in time for the lone star state and northern sections of mexico here. you can see on the satellite perspecti perspective, deep convection and moisture to stream inland. look at the rain bands beginning to impact south texas. tropical storm warnings posted here. hermine, maximum sustained winds at 45 miles per hour. drifting to the north at 10 miles per hour and the pressure at 999 millibars. not expected to be a tropical weather maker as we go into the latter part of the week but
situation may present an opportunity to continue helping people. but she toll us she still would like to show him a few things. we ll hear from her coming right up and whether she s pleased with the effort to make things right again. under fire and not backing down. new york congressman charlie rangel says that he welcomes the chance to defend himself against ethics charges at a public hearing next week in congress. brianna keilar is following developments for us. we ll get a live report just ahead. first this morning, tropical storm bonnie moving in as the clean-up crews in the gulf get out. the dangerous system is expected to pass through the florida keys today and then into the gulf of mexico where it is already hampering oil clean-up crews. reynold wolf is tracking tropical storm bonnie for us live from the extreme weather center. where is she now and how much strength? right now she s a minimal tropical storm. she s located about 158 miles from miami, florida. easy to see
fidelity investments. turn here. welcome back to cnn american morning. take a look at tropical storm bonnie. weak at this time. minimal tropical storm. 39 or above it is a tropical storm. as we take a look at the big picture you will notice deep convection. the storm ragged at the time being. it is moving west-northwest at 19. sustained winds at 40. gusts to 50. expected to make its way into the gulf of mexico if it follows the expected forecast path of the national hurricane center and may go over the oil slick as we get into saturday and then
leak could be pushed back by ten days or even more. the national hurricane center issued a tropical storm watch for the northern gulf of mexico coastline and it is a watch that stretches from morgan city, louisiana, eastward to destin, florida. reynolds wolf here with a closer look. the storm is poorly defined. it is easy to see here right here. enlarge this image. you see the deep convection north of miami. winds are sustained at 40 miles per hour. it has been gusting a bit stronger, though. to 50 miles per hour. the center is about 82 miles of miami, florida. now you have rain in miami. center of circulation 82 miles from that point. now, to be more specific, here is what we have. ft. lauderdale, southward to miami, south miami hieights, wht we anticipate the storm will fluctuate in power over the next couple of hours. then possibly pop out into the gulf of mexico.
