Were going to begin tonight with breaking news and a state of emergency in louisville, kentucky. As we come on the air, protesters and police are clashing that. The National Guard is on alert, and the city is under a mandatory curfew after a grand jury decided not to indict three Police Officers in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor. The 26yearold emergency room technician was shot six times in her apartment back in march by Plainclothes Police serving a drug warrant. Today, the attorney general said two of the officers were were justified when they fired the shots that killed her. Now, a third officer will face lesser charges, not for taylors death, but for firing shots into her neighbors homes. Well they can grant this proposal centers around the idea of essentially re imagining Public Safety. The mayor and City Council Members are proposing that Police Officers focus solely on solving crimes as opposed to handling traffic situations and they believe this could save the city. A lot of money as well as limiting the number of negative interactions between Police Officers and people of color. A new progressive proposal in berkeley could ban police from enforcing traffic stops the move being considered by City Government would instead create an unarmed civilian division to handle the job, you know the calvary trying to cut co sponsor of the proposal Council Member ben bartlett would like to see changes to Public Safety in his city. Bartlett believes a new department of transportation would be better suited then police to take

But the mayor strongly feels the city should have authority over public orders because the berkeley has its own Public Health department and the case count is far lower. Then the rest of the county. I respectfully disagree. But the states decision i think its going to really burden or Small Businesses and neighbors alternate places their jobs. I think its going backwards. Berkeley mayor Jesse Arreguin speaking out at a virtual town Hall Saturday against the states guidance banning Outdoor Dining in Alameda County or fiction writers under like some of our other neighboring jurisdictions and so i think you know we should have the ability to be able to make our own decisions about. Orders city manager Dee Williams Ridley says berkeley will be reaching out to state officials to try to obtain its own variance to allow Outdoor Dining but in the meantime we are going to have to comply with that order we are hoping that this will be a very short temporary h
