Experiencing pregnancy or infant loss isn’t uncommon. In fact, it’s been estimated that as many as one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage.  “I really believe it needs to be recognized that after a miscarriage, there is grief to deal with,” Raffo said. “Some people may not … but I think for the majority of people, they’ve already imagined that (pregnancy) as a child. You imagine the future and suddenly it’s taken away.”  For Sea-to-Sky residents and their partners who, like Raffo, have experienced the loss of a child before or after birth, the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) is starting up a pregnancy and infant loss support program aimed at helping them navigate the grief.
