looking at the belly? that s a tough one. visually from 30,000 feet, no. probably no. but in the u.s. military, we have an entire decision matrix. most sophisticated militaries play by ethical rules where you have a decision matrix and different information is coming in to determine what kinds of aircraft that is. for one, did it take off from an enemy air field? transponder code that it s an airliner, identify friend or foe. then there are other sensors that can look at the engines of the aircraft to determine what type of aircraft it is. so in our military, we would go through a large decision matrix to make sure that this was actually a foe aircraft before ever firing at it. but mistakes do happen. the rebels don t have the word matrix in their dictionary. this really raises the issue of the sophisticated systems being in the hands of people who are undisciplined as a military who don t go through those
sort of way. and politicizing these sort of moments and sort of adding a lot of political noise to the commander in chief s decision matrix seems to me to be extremely dangerous and extremely selfish. yeah, that s been sort of the i think the oddest thing frankly about the fwush folks coming out of retirement to sort of talk about these things because it does seem like an odd moment to try to come out and make yourself look like you were actually making good decisions ten years ago or whatever. but i do think that the white house and the people on the hill that are going to be directly involved in some of these decisions are able to walk and chew gum at the same time occasionally. these kind of foreign policy matters, one of the few times they ve demonstrated the ability to do that. i would hope at least they could sort of fight on this political side with one hand but actually figure out the detail policy on the other without it conflicting too much. yeah, and we often talk abou
for now at least we re choosing not to air them. today s release ends a month-long court fight to make them public. opponents argue the wounds are too fresh. those who argue for the release, say they may provide insight into the way the call was handled and prepare us for future events. just because the media has something, a photograph, a tape, a piece of video, doesn t mean we have to release it and say whatever we get, we put it out and let the people decide how they feel about it. we make decisions about what to air and what to broadcast every single day. and you knee, we have to ask is this valuable for the public good? does it advance the story and enhance our understanding? if it doesn t, are we doing grief tourism? and i think mesh iring what is the public good with releasing information and has to be the prime part of the decision matrix.
if i had missiles lobbed at me that s war. it s an act of war. if you take that action, you have to expect, as you saw bashar al assad say to charlie rose, there will be a reaction. are you prepared for the counter action to it? that s the decision matrix the administration should be going through and what the american people are looking for. when you look at libya and the fact that we went there, toppled gadhafi but now have radical islamists all over. we lost an ambassador, had an attack on an embassy and terrorists are being trained to fight in syria. we have a minute left. president vladimir putin stepping in and taking a remark by secretary kerry and what seemed like an aside. now that may be a way to wrest away weapons from assad. the kgb guy now looks like the only adult in the classroom. if you really want to take away the ability to use chemical weapons again, you have to secure the chemical weapons
we went into libya. didn t have congressional approval. look what happened. i know there is objection to the president going to congress. i think it was the right thing to do, the constitutional thing. it s interesting though secretary kerry says it is not war. i consider it war. it is war. if i had missiles lobbed at me that s war. it s an act of war. if you take that action, you have to expect, as you saw bashar al assad say to charlie rose, there will be a reaction. are you prepared for the counter action to it? that s the decision matrix the administration should be going through and what the american people are looking for. when you look at libya and the fact that we went there, toppled gadhafi but now have radical islamists all over. we lost an ambassador, had an attack on an embassy and terrorists are being trained to fight in syria. we have a minute left. president vladimir putin stepping in and taking a remark
