why is this happening? these storms can disrupt the relationship with la nina and rain in california. this condition is doing that. so how long do we expect this will last? well, it s hard to tell for sure. the next few days look active still. there s indications for the few days after that. there may be continued activity. we don t really know beyond a couple weeks what will come. but we do know it can shut down like it did last year, december, january, february, martha were super dry after the wettest december on record. we re humble in recognizing we don t know what will come that far out. if we get normal precipitation, we ll end up for the rest of the year above normal. mother nature will decide the fate of water supply and flood in the region. we see this damage being brought by this water coming in so fast and furious.
30th in the middle of winter. that is not normal. it s typically cold. usually there is at least some snow on the ground, or at least some moisture from melted snow. sadly, the snow came about 24 hours too late on friday night. the rubble of homes in lewisville and superior, colorado now covered by nearly a foot of snow. couple s assistant state climatologist says this was, quite literally, the perfect storm. quote, the ingredients for a devastating wildfire have been coming together since last spring. a very wet spring 2021 helped grow the grasses. very dry summer and fall dried the grasses out and prepared the kindling. here is some statistics to put this all in perspective. it was the tenth warmest december on record, the third warmest november in september, and the fourth warmest august. this fire didn t happen in the mountains. it happened in the suburbs of denver, about 35 minutes from downtown. in fact, people could actually see the fire from high-rises in

landscape has been, again, coming off of what has been a very wet period into the 1990s and 1980s. tree ring data, thousands of sites around the western united states and sample trees, dead trees, live trees, wood beams preserved from archaeological sites. all of this revealed significant data when it comes to not only forest fires over the course of the last 1,000 or so years but within tree rings you can clearly see where rainy seasons have been based on how wide apart the tree rings are. if the tree rings become very compact that tells us your dry spell. we saw this dramatic shift which, again, suggests human induced climate change could play a role in all of this. give you a more recent sample size here. los angeles, one of the wettest december on record. january, one of the driest januarys on record. reversal a significant one in a very short time period.
