you have a small band of protesters around two dozen or so, they face off with police, they throw bottles at officers and they throw rocks. businesses get vandalized, windows get smashed, arrested are made. over the weekend about 100 people were arrested, 80 last night. in terms of the case, poppy, this is a situation that goes back to december of 2011. former officer jason stockley was in the midst of a car chase. this was a drug suspect. and he ended up shooting this suspect claiming that his life was in danger. he says he saw a gun. prosecutors thought that the gun was planted. they said they had evidence of that. the judge was not convinced. the verdict was handed down on friday and then ever since then you had all of these protests pop up, poppy. dan simon, thank you for watching them and differentiating between what we re seeing during the day and what has been transpiring overnight there.
reporter: right now they re taking a hands off posture. you can see, you have police over here on the side. obviously they don t want to shut down the freeway because that s really going to disrupt things. i don t know what s going to happen if and when they do try to go on to the freeway itself. it s beginning to be something to watch this. you can see police casually standing off on the side, clearly they don t want to escalate things and this crowd is acting peacefully as you can see. dan, we ll continue to check with you throughout the evening. i want to give you background on the case that that you are protesters about. our randy k report. reporter: you re watching the final moments of a man s life. it s december of 2011, a motorist, anthony smith being chased by a police officer jason stockily and his partner. the officer suspected he d been involved in a drug deal. the officers would later say
engaged in unconstitutional policing. he is a disgrace to law enforcement. the th is what tis is what t said today. i thought he was treated unbelievably unfairly when they came down with their about big decision to go get him right before the election voting started. as you know. and he lost in fairly close election. he would have won the election. but they just hammered him just before the election. i thought that was a very, very unfair thing to do. was is it politically motivated. of course not. why don t we talk about the facts, chris. initial inquiry open in june of 2008 under the watch of george w. bush. when we investigated, one of the reasons we didn t release ourer of findings until december of 2011 was because they fought us tooth and nail. they wouldn t give us access to information. we had to go to court and file a lawsuit to get access to

he mentioned everything but frog legs. a lot of resentment between newt gingrich and mitt romney stems back to december of 2011 in iowa when the romney campaign unleashed a barrage on newt. he s never gotten over it. but the question here, as jonathan and julie said before, the fact that this has taken so long, trump clearly is hearing all the criticism. the romney people simply don t know and it makes a lot of people who love romney very uncomfortable to see him out there in this position but he would still take the job because he thinks he can soften trump for the world. former speaker gingrich is saying he s happy to say another and be a consultant from time to time but his speaking fee is raised because he has unique insights, we should pay him more. i don t know if mr. trump thinks
