High Noon is an intellectual download featuring conversations that make a free society possible. Every week, Stepman will speak with thinkers from all parts of the political spectrum to discuss the most controversial subjects of the day in a way that hopes to advance a common American future.

Rash, grandiose calls for action are the left’s bread and butter. Cancel this and that. Burn the mother down. Dreadful as it is, they’re winning. Meanwhile, the right is too tepid or prideful to hold strong on a boycott. That must change.
Last fall, it felt like the right people were retaking lost positions in the culture war. Mass righteous indignation erupted after Netflix began promoting its controversial movie Cuties. #CancelNetflix shot to the top of the trends on Twitter. Millions unsubscribed or didn’t sign up. Ultimately, however, the cultural moment was just that, a “flash in the pan” as one elite financier predicted at the time.
One of the most commonly heard debater’s challenges, online and in real life, is: “Are YOU an expert in (X)?” The obvious if generally unspoken corollary is: “If not, then shut up.” However, very often, you don’t need to. There is little evidence that a smart normal citizen, capable of effective analysis of empirical data, cannot criticize the work of academic or journalistic “experts” in most fields or any reason that he or she should be intimidated by these title-holders.
Obviously, some professional background in a topic that one is discussing or researching is a good thing. However, no credential can substitute for a relatively unbiased and non-partisan approach to data, or for what can bluntly be called intelligence. In July 2017, I took a risk and submitted an article to a publication that I respected and read frequently, hoping to provide conservatives a perspective they may not have viewed before. I wanted to address why suicide was so high among transgender people and ask questions about transition I hadn’t seen asked by mainstream LGBT sources.
I wanted to present my voice as a person who experienced gender dysphoria, pursued transition, then later found myself grateful I didn’t go through with it. So with nervousness, I sent the article to Public Discourse, the online journal of the Witherspoon Institute.
