SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Juanita Nelson beamed as she stepped out of the People’s AME Zion church, having just received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. “I didn’t even feel it,” Nelson, a Black woman in her 80s, said of the needle entering her arm. She and others interviewed at the church last week expressed relief, a sense of finally feeling protected against a virus that has killed many of their peers.
