WHEELING A Moundsville woman is suing Wheeling Hospital alleging they are responsible for the death of her son.
Deborah Markey filed the lawsuit as the administratrix of the estate of Larry Eddy III, who was 24 years old, against Wheeling Hospital and Tri-State Emergency Physicians, alleging that they were negligent in failing to diagnose him with an infection, which caused sepsis and Eddy’s death, according to a complaint filed in Ohio Circuit Court.
Eddy presented to Wheeling Hospital on May 7, 2020, with complaints of shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, leg pain, ankle swelling, nausea, vomiting and a fever of 103.6 degrees Fahrenheit. The providers who saw him discharged him with antibiotic and nausea prescriptions. Bloodwork that had been done indicated inflammation and infection and the lab reported findings of gram-positive cocci clusters and the final report indicated staph aureus/MSSA, but no one contacted Eddy about the results.
