It was a mixed bag of results for Forrest and Lamar county city elections, with most incumbents, including Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker, retaining their seats.
Municipal elections were held Tuesday in Hattiesburg, Purvis, Sumrall and Lumberton. Petal s races were decided in April s primary and runoff elections.
Polling places reported no issues in Tuesday s election, according to city clerks. Turnout, they said, was low. Around 10% of registered voters came out, said Purvis city clerk Catherine Kemp Tuesday.
Hattiesburg city clerk Kermas Eaton said only around 30% of registered Hattiesburg voters participated.
Vote totals remain unofficial until they are certified by the Mississippi Secretary of State s office.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Councilwoman Deborah Delgado hosted the “Black Girls Run for Office, Black Girls Vote” event to help promote physical and political activity for Black women.
The event was hosted at Chain Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
At the event, women were getting active by walking, running or biking around the park. Complimentary health screenings were also offered.
In addition to the physicality, the participants could work out their fundamental rights by registering to vote and meeting with elected female officials to learn how they can run for office as well.
Hattiesburg City Council begins discussion for using federal relief funds

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Monday evening Hattiesburg City Council members in Hattiesburg held a regular work session and many brought up how they want to see the city’s federal COVID-19 relief money spent.
The city can expect its first installment of federal funds totaling $13.6 million later this month. The state allocated the federal funding to municipalities and counties in its most recent session.
WDAM spoke with two council members about where they want to see the money spent.
Councilwoman Mary Dryden, of Ward 4, brought up drainage infrastructure issues.
In Ward 1, Democrat Ken Chambers will face incumbent Jeffrey George, a Republican. Chambers received 139 votes.
Council President Carter Carroll, a Republican, and Democrat Picasso Nelson Sr. will be hoping to gain the Ward 3 seat in June. Nelson received 266 votes.
Ward 4 s race will be between Councilwoman Mary Dryden and former councilman Dave Ware. Both are running as independents.
Wards 2 and 5 Democratic incumbents Deborah Delgado and Nicholas Brown will not face opposition in the June election and will retain their seats on the council.
Delgado received 66% of the votes with 601.Opponents Cedric Dallas garnered 129 votes or 14%, and Charlie Scrap Johnson earned 181 votes or 20%.
