Birders visiting Sanibel and Captiva have a new resource when scanning the brush and beaches with binoculars for fine-feathered flocks.
The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation compiled a comprehensive list of birds found on the islands. The new list includes nearly 300 species that have been observed on the islands.
The digital-friendly list includes everything from New World warblers and owls to plovers and nightjars.
“We just wanted to have a document for people to use for birds to see while they’re here and have it pretty comprehensive,” SCCF shorebird biologist Audrey Albrecht said.
Albrecht was part of the team writing and compiling the list.
