Sign Up Reliance on food banks has soared to “staggering” levels in the north-east, amid claims that a five-year masterplan to regenerate Peterhead has achieved little. Members of Buchan Area Committee yesterday heard that more and more desperate people were applying for free school dinners or turning to food banks to put meals on the table.

Staff and management at Subsea 7 felt funds reserved for the celebrations and office events should be given to community initiatives this year instead. Another £2,000 has been split between smaller organisations. Subsea 7 senior vice-president, Steve Wisely, hopes the donations can help “ease the challenges many local people are facing”.

IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners are urged to pick up after their pets as a rise in dog faeces has been highlighted in Dalton. The Dalton Community Action group urged people not to walk at night due to the risk of stepping in dog dirt. This is what The Mail s readers had to say: Dawn McCabe said: Yep it is disgraceful we are a dog owner ourselves but when I see what other people have left it angers me so much why get a dog if there not picking up after themselves we are having a lot of dog poo lately in our area never seen so much lately.
