A Cirencester-based care home has created its very own children’s book to raise money for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. The book titled, ‘Our Friend Bertie,’ is a tale inspired by the friendly fox which has taken residence in the gardens of Elm Grove Bupa Care Home. Care assistant at Elm Grove, Victoria Hamlett, came up with the idea and drafted in the homes’ residents to help write the story. To help get the creative juices flowing, residents drew and coloured in pictures of Bertie the fox whilst they pieced together the story and its characters. The conversations were animated as they decided on Bertie’s name, whether he had brothers and sisters and other aspects of the narrative.
