one of the political data points of the day is a new poll showing 76% oppose sending ground troops to fight isis. a poll conducted in november 14th and 15th, so in the aftermath of what we saw in paris. interesting number. i think that s probably a reaction to our experience of the last 14 years now in iraq, in afghanistan. but, is it possible that those who want to project force on the ground there to also have a point. i just think it s a debate worth having. the president this afternoon seemed to assume in a way, a certain level of familiarity with the facts, with his view that i just think could be better expressed and more fully expressed. those of us in the media, those
the very first cabinet meeting that the bush administration had when it came into office is about iraq. that shows the priorities. it took them 32 more feelings that took place a week before 9/11. again let s also remember iraq was shooting at the united states aircraft and forcing the no fly zone on behalf of the entire western world. there was a shooting war that should have taken the attention of the administration. nothing to do with what happened in 2003 with iraq but 2001 the air force was being fired on. three months earlier, al qaeda bombers blew up an american ship killing 17 american soldiers. that s a real shooting war just before the bush administration in the year 2000. right. so al qaeda was already clearly a serious threat. iraq, as we know, wasn t. so anyway, i mean, you know, historians will continue to judge this issue but i think donald trump put it into the public domain. it s a debate worth having.
slaughtered? i think the likelihood of hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been diminished if hitler was armed. the anti-defamation group is jumping in saying in 1938 there were so few guns among jews in germany so it would have made no difference. they are suggesting he doesn t know history. they don t know that and neither does ben carson. it is an academic question probably not worth analyzing. but is it true in order to run the population and control them they disarm them? of course is it true. it makes sense. that is a debate worth having. but when you tie it to historical events, in this case the holocaust, it gets muddied up by emotion. it is an entirely theoretically
we don t know what s going to happen with that debate. but certainly it s a debate worth having. the president said recently it s been the most frustrating example. he feels stymied by the failure to accomplish his goals on closing the loopholes, the gun show loophole, the things that are most obvious. well, certainly i share his frustration because as a prosecutor i deal with the aftermath of that. but you know it s a very it s a very some say divisive issue. it has been divisive in many parts of our debate. it s an issue that brings forth a lot of strong opinions. i think all of those opinions should be heard. they should be at the table. my view is always if we can get past talking about each other maybe we can talk to each other about how to manage the firearms in our society. when we talk about community policing and police relations, the sandra bland case. and i know it hasn t been
