it felt like we went month to month to month in the 2020 democratic primary each new turn of the debate cycle. that s what it could have been for republicans. if trump chooses to just take himself out of the process, that gums up the entire gears of the process. at that point, you have to see what the rnc does and the rest of the field does. everyone is debating without the main guy in the room. i don t know how that helps anybody get ahead. ali, matthew, basil, thank you. coming up, moscow targeted by drones. how it disrupted flights at one of their major international airports. we are live with the latest. (vo) if you have graves disease, your eye symptoms could mean something more. that gritty feeling can t be brushed away. even a little blurry vision can distort things. and something serious may be behind those itchy eyes. up to 50% of people with graves could develop a different condition called thyroid eye disease, which should be treated by a different doctor. see an exper
all, thank you. defense attorneys in the trial of former obama white house counsel greg craig say they plan to call the defendant to testify. prosecution is expected to rest its case tomorrow. craig is charged with one count of lying to federal investigators about his work on a report paid for in part by the ukrainian government. politics 2020 style, the democrats battling each other for the right to take on president trump next year, are either preparing for the next debate cycle in september or pushing hard to try to qualify. one candidate who appears to be gaining momentum is packing the crowds in at campaign rallies. correspondent peter doocy shows us tonight. even elizabeth warren s campaign says 15,000 people showed up to see her in seattle, the senator made her standard offer. i will stay as long as you want, we will take selfies. that line was four hours long and reflects the movement in a new monmouth full of democrats that shows the former vice president joe biden is no
conversations. i think one of the lessons we learned in 2016 was how difficult it was. no matter how much hillary clinton talked about policy to have that breakthrough the media narrative as part of that that s what s really interesting. you bring that up. talking policy didn t work in 2016 for hillary clinton. it didn t work for the challenges in the republican primary going up against donald trump in 2016. what makes democrats think it s going to be different this time around? maybe it s because of the size of the field or the length of time we have. maybe this is an odd up side. candidates really seem to be seeking to differentiate themselvespolicywise and smartly using the debate cycle. they know the debate is coming up and they re using it. we saw elizabeth warren define herself way early in january before anybody else had really gotten in, and she could drive an entire news cycle or two with an ultra millionaire s tax. that s a really exciting development that s really very
whole things, everything that came out of this was a self-inflicted wound. if he had not made the mistake last week, he wouldn t have had to answer it. last night, he did days of debate prep with some of the best in the business, ron klain, anita dunn. people who have done debate cycle after cycle. there was nervousness coming out of the debate prep sessions. yet this had to be something he was prepped for, and whether it was in the moment because he didn t anticipate it coming from harris or what, in the moment she prosecuted it and he could have deaden that thing with the right answer to her first question. he could have shut it down maybe with an apology or tamped it down. instead he stumbled into it and gave her more opportunities to keep coming back. the performance mistakes are a huge problem for biden. can he change? i don t want to foreclose the possibility but there s not been a sign of it yet that he s been able to make those changes.
testifying publicly before congress. it s going to happen next month. i ll talk about how he will likely handle lawmakers questions with someone who has worked with him closely. also, a new flash point in the immigration debate. a disturbing image of a father and daughter drowned trying to cross the u.s./mexico border. it s sparking new outrage. and we will of course have much more ahead as we count down to tonight s big showdown. something to ponder as we head to break as we take a live look at that debate stage there in miami. since the last debate cycle when donald trump dominated that stage, have moments like to changed our expectations? i have a policy question for you, sir. let s see if he answers it. i will, don t worry about it. don t worry about it. don t worry about it, little marco, i will. well, let s hear big donald. don t worry about it little marco. gentlemen, let s
