The Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region gained about 3,300 jobs last month while its unemployment rate continued to trend downwards, according to data released Friday from Statistics Canada.
The region’s most recent unemployment figure, a three-month moving average unadjusted for seasonality, decreased by half a percentage point in April to 6.1 per cent, nearly two full points lower than it was at this time in 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic.

Further analysis from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board shows last month’s uptick in overall net employment being driven by gains in full-time employment (6,800), which offset a loss of about 3,500 part-time jobs.
