The Turkish coast guard has said it recovered a total of six migrant bodies in the Aegean Sea. Rescue operations are ongoing for one missing person off the coast of Izmir.
Spanish police believe the suspected migrants are of north African origin, and may have drowned while trying to reach Spain in a boat. Their bodies have been taken for autopsies to determine the cause of death.
Search operations for approximately 30 migrants who drowned in April started on Monday off the coasts of Tripoli, in North Lebanon. The search operations are privately financed by the relatives of the victims who raised a collective fund for this purpose.
The UN Migration Agency (IOM) has shared its latest numbers on returns to Libya. Almost 300 migrants were returned to Libya in one week, taking the total number of returns thus far this year to more than 10,200.
